Section 1. Prior to Installation: Questions
I. Questions to ask Harry / Jerry:
1. Obtain a copy of the Hardware portion of the contract.
1.a Name of contact at facility, and telephone number.
2. Is the operating system loaded when the system is delivered? If not:
a. Are the operating system tapes ordered?
b. Are they at the client site?
3. Are terminal cables ordered from IBM or are we ordering them separately?
If separately:
a. Are they ordered?
b. Have they been shipped?
c. Are they being shipped to the client site or to our office?
d. If to the client, have they been received there?
e. If to our office, where are they? (We have to take them along.)
4. Are printer cables ordered from IBM or are we ordering them separately?
If separately:
a. Are they ordered?
b. Have they been shipped?
c. Are they being shipped to the client site or to our office?
d. If to the client, have they been received there?
e. If to our office, where are they? (We have to take them along.)
5. Did we order the modem or did the facility? If we did:
a. Is it to be delivered to the client or to our office?
b. If to the client, has it been received there?
c. If to our office, where is it? (We have to program it and take
it along.)
6. Is there any special cabling to be run by the facility? Is it done?
7. Are there PCs to be hooked up to the IBM? (We'll have to prepare a
Kermit diskette?
8. Are we taking along client data from our office?
II. Questions to ask the Facility:
1. Has the equipment arrived?
(Use the Hardware Contract to ask specifically about each major item)
2. Is it in the room(s) intended for installation?
If not, what are the arrangements for getting it there at installation
time?
3. Are there 10 outlets free for the system?
(Example: 1 each for (1) CPU, (2) tape drive, (3) CD ROM, (4) console,
(5) modem.
Then, we need 1 outlet per 16 port concentrator, average: 2; that's 7.
Usually, a printer's nearby;
that's 8. And we need an extra outlet or two to test printers and/or
terminals.)
4. Are there outlets for any equipment to be placed in other rooms; i.e.,
terminals and printers?
5. Is there a separate phone line for the modem, separate from their phone
system?
6. Do they know the telephone number of the modem line?
7. If client is to get shipment of terminal cables, are they there?
8. If client is to get shipment of printer cables, are they there?
9. If client is to get shipment of a modem, is it there?
10. If PCs are to be hooked up to the RS6000 verify that COM1 or COM2 is
available.
Section 2. Prior to Installation: Tasks
1. Create the release tape.
a. There is a utility on /u/vol600/bin called loadcharts. Review
with Buddy line by line:
tar cvf /dev/rmt1 \
/u/rel \
/u/vol600/bin \
/u/vol600/wisp/bin \
/u/vol600/wisp/config \
/u/vol600/rhs/STARTUP \
/u/vol600/rhs/charts.r \
/u/vol600/rhs/demo \
/u/vol600/rhs/dietfile \
/u/vol600/rhs/forms \
/u/vol600/rhs/labmsg \
/usr/spool/uprint/*def \
/usr/lib/wisp.license \
/usr/lib/UniQue.license \
/etc/a_termcap \
/.profile
b. Verify the type of tape drive they have and find appropriate tape.
If this is not the gigabyte tape, alter "loadcharts" to rmt0.
c. Run loadcharts.
2. Prepare Client Data.
a. On the Wang, make sure that "rel" and "roo" are valid users for
this environment.
b. If the files are on the Wang, they need to be transferred to the
IBM. (Use COPY
to create flat files, backup, load down, run conversion programs).
c. Change the "loadcharts" utility (above) to include the client
library before running loadcharts. Change loadcharts back to the
original when done.
3. Prepare Kermit diskette.
a. Load LapLink (llpro) and the kermit directory onto diskette.
4. Prepare Modem.
a. There's a utility on some of our PCs (ask Ariel) to program the modem for Auto
Answer. FOR AIX 4.1.1 SEE P-1110
Section 3. Summary of Equipment to Take
1. Modem
2. Modem Cables: Regular, and null modem
3. Gender changer for each end of every cable.
4. Terminal cables
5. Printer cables
6. Tape of RHS release
7. Kermit diskette
8. Outlet strip
9. 3151 Terminal
10. Tape drive
11. Knife, for opening boxes and documentation.
12. 2 flat screwdrivers: small and medium.
13. Small pliers.
14. Get the "number of the day" (for typing into RHS logo), especially if
we're taking client data. This will avoid possible security issues when
running CHARTS.
Section 4. Installation
1. Unpack, plug in all hardware.
2. Console settings. If the set-up documentation does not give exact
instructions, use the following values:
a. Press Ctrl-Setup to invoke Setup screens. First screen:

Insert Character MODE Character NATIONAL
d. Press "Send" for next screen. Press Space Bar to save.
3a. Boot system.
3b. Run the "man" command to see if it is included in the operating system.
3c. Using a 3.5" diskette run "doswrite" to see if the DOS utilities are
included in the operating system.
4. Enlarge /u ("/home") filesystem.
5. Use smit to create user "rel", password charts.
6. Insert RHS release tape. Type "tar xv".
7. Rename charts.r to charts. Check to see if the files are compressed.
If yes, uncompress.
8. Chmod 777 charts and client data files.
9. Log off. Log on. Type "wrun SUPER" to see if CHARTS runs.
10. Use vi to modify /etc/rc. Include the following line at the end,
before the exit 0 line:
/u/vol600/bin/rhsstart
For AIX 4.1.1 see P-2370.
11. Set up terminal ports. To set up PC's, set "Terminal" in smit to vt320.
12. After adding tty's, run /u/vol600/wisp/bin/wsysconf.
13. smit -> system environments -> Change Number of Licensed Users.
Increase to "9-16".
14. While in "system environments", correct the date, time and time zone.
15. Do not use smit to create users; use /u/vol600/bin/rhmuser.
16. Set up printers. In SMIT, if XON is YES then DTR must be NO, and vice
versa.
17. Use vi to edit LPMAP.
18. Shut down. Re-boot.
19. If we brought along client's data, change usage constants of "rel" so
that INLIB = the client library before creating other users. Save.
20. Use rhsmuser to create user "backup", password "backup".
Edit /u/backup/.profile as follows: Delete the last line (wrun SUPER).
Insert: /u/vol600/bin/rhsbackup.
Edit /u/vol600/bin/rhsback1 so that (a) the rmt designation is correct,
and (b) so that you're backing up the client's library.
Log off and test this function.
21. Using cat, create a file for the modem in u/vol600/bin/modem.
In the device name, substitute "x" for "/".
Example: /dev/tty6 becomes xdevxtty6.
22. For each user edit the .profile file as follows:
For non super user: PS1='$PWD:$'
For super users PS1='$PWD:#'
Section 5. Post-Installation
The form on the next page must be filled out after installation and given
to Harry or Jerry. It is to be inserted into the client's file folder.
The "equipment left" there is billed to the facility. "Follow-up" refers to
equipment which must be ordered or other software or hardware they still
need for proper installation. The modem phone number is to be entered into
our kermit dial directory on the IBM.
